Pale Blue-"One Last Thing"(2015)

Best shit from 2015.

Murder City Devils-"Press Gang"(2000)

To see The Murder City Devils or not to see The Murder City Devils at Webster Hall? I fucking hate Webster Hall.

David Bowie-"Blackstar"(2015)

This track owns. It's like David Bowie made a similar krautrock inspired song off Kid A, but it pisses me off to say that because Bowie was playing Kraftwerk through the PA at his shows to warm up his audience while Thom Yorke was only ten years old.

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

From the Trainspotting soundtrack (and their album Leisure). I've been listening to this soundtrack lately, and it really withstands the test of time.

Pinkish Black-"Brown Rainbow"(2015)

This lp came out Friday on Relapse Records. It slays. Andthese dudes are really nice to boot.

Pylon - "Cool" (1980)

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

Pictureplane has been working on this album for years. I think it sounds great and is just what i'd expect from Travis- dance, trance, throwback techno etc. The last time i saw him at Palisades in Bushwick he slayed.

Monday, October 26, 2015

Hot Chip-"Huarache Lights [A/Jus/Ted remix](2015)

Siq remix. I want to make it to one of Justin Strauss's DJ gigs around Brooklyn sometime.

Friday, October 23, 2015

Kurt Vile-"Shame Chamber"(2013)

I think this may be my favorite Kurt Vile song from this lp.

Thursday, October 22, 2015

Jamie XX-"Loud Places[Mike Simonetti remix](2015)

One of my favorite albums of the year with a dark remix by you-know-who.

Absu-"The Temples of Offal [demo]"(1991)

Early Dallas (Plano, actually) black metal with Equitant on bass. I'm thinking hard on ordering this cassette from him.

Monday, October 19, 2015

Sunday, October 18, 2015

Starchaser Network-"New York U Know"(2006)

I was just going through some of Equitant's prolific and genre spanning projects. More Equitant posts to come.

Thursday, October 15, 2015

I finally listened to this tape Ed gave me for my birthday (2 years ago?). 3rd pressing, come on Ed!

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

I recently found a cache of mix tapes from high school and later. This cover was the 2nd song on my "Winter of '02" mix (the original version by Joy Division started Side A).

Erykah Badu-"Hotling Bling"(2015)

Shout out to the best track to come out of Dallas since Pantera - and it's a cover. Just kiddin'.

Book of Love-"Boy"(1986)

I'm thinking about throwing this song into a DJ set next week. I love the bells in this one.

Here's the new unremarkable video from one of my favorite albums of this year.

Saturday, September 26, 2015

DJ Koze-"XTC"(2013)

Another cut played at the Le Bain set by DJ Mike Simonetti. I'm going down memory lane tonight since I'm missing him at Bossa Nova. I'm not too worried, though, i know he'll be back there soon.

Thelma Houston-"I'm Here Again"(1977)

Another deep disco cut heard late into Simonetti's six hour set at Le Bain.

"I Got The Feeling"-Two Tons O' Fun(1981)

I heard my favorite DJ play this one a few weekends ago at Le Bain. He slayed with the deep classic cuts near the end of the night.

The Clean - "Beatnik" (1982)

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Monday, September 14, 2015

The Weeknd-"The Hills"(2015)

I think i read something like this song finds The Weeknd returning to form from his first mixtape, House of Balloons. (I was thinking the same thing). "The Hills" is the first single that he's come out with that sounds like The Weeknd that i first heard 4 years ago. I fucking love this track. Probably one of the best rap/trap songs to hit radio since....

Thursday, September 10, 2015

Mike Simonetti-"Bossa Nova Civic Club Bootleg Song"(2015)

Named after his residency at Bossa Nova Civic Club, where he would test out his edits. (Although i guess i'm out of the loop because i've only heard of him DJing there like twice in the last year).

An old work friend posted this track recently on social media. It's not as good as this track, but i like it.

Charanjit Singh-"Synthesizing"(1982)

Another gem David showed me last night. Goes well with purple kush and Evan Williams.

Adult-"Tonight We Fall"(2013)

My buddy, David, showed me this band from Detroit last night. I've heard about them for years and i really enjoy their "dance punk" sound.

Monday, September 7, 2015

The Cure-"Burn"(1994)

I was talking about this soundtrack the other day. I really can't remember with whom. Reminded me of the OST opener which happens to be one of my favorite bands of all time.

Sunday, September 6, 2015

Bottin's new project with a live percussionist. Coming out on 2MR Records.

Saturday, September 5, 2015

Mike Simonetti @ Le Bain

Speaking of Mike Simonetti, this is tonight.

Gianco-"Old Night Flight"(1983)

Italo disco from '83. This is probably the 12,421th track Mike Simonetti's tipped me off to.

Friday, September 4, 2015

Duotronic Synterror-"LEBEN OHNE NERVEN"(1981)

Falvo showed me this German minimal synth act. It's fucking nuts. I love it.

Ex Machina disco scene

"The greatest scene from Ex Machina" is an accurate YouTube title for this clip. Truly an exemplary moment in modern cinema.

In case the above isn't enough, here is the full song:

Sky Ferreira-"Everything Is Embarassing"(2012)

Been on that Dev Hynes shit lately.

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

The Replacements-"Bastards of Young"(1985)

More pub rock. The simplicity of this video slays and makes me just want to listen to records and chain smoke. From their first major label lp, Tim produced by Tommy Ramone.

Pulp-"Common People"(1995)

Pub anthem rock.

Sunday, August 23, 2015

The Horn-"Villager"(1996)

I recently discovered this track after listening to this BIS mix by the Drifter. This is the standout track imho.

HEALTH-"L.A. Looks"(2015)

I'm listening to the new Health album, Death Magic, right now. So far this is the nut-buster.

My Bloody Valentine-"When You Sleep"(1991)

I'm not big on 90s nostalgia rock, but this album is still so great. MBV played Dallas in 2009 but i regrettably missed it (because i was going to Europe the next day or some shit). In hindsight, i should've attended. All i heard about for months from every person that went was A. this was the loudest show ever/ comparable to a jet engine hitting your chest B. They sounded perfect.

Oh well, maybe i'll see them one day.

Saturday, August 15, 2015

Friday, August 14, 2015

John Cale & Brian Eno-"Wrong Way Up"(1990)

This is a sick album from 1990. It's nice to hear what these two producers and performers in their own right made whileworking collaboratively.

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

Alan Braxe & Friends-"The Upper Cuts"(2005)

This whole album is great to throw on when you don't want to think about music or what you want to play next.

Monday, August 10, 2015

Yaz(oo)-"Only You"(1982)

Written by Vince Clark. Upstairs at Eric's is a flawless, timeless classic album in my humble opinion.

I was hyped to see some Jakarta, Indonesia and Singapore landmarks in this video. This song slays. I just can't stop listening to this track.

Blur-"Lonesome Street"(2015)

I tried getting tickets to the free Blur show this Friday at Music Hall of Williamsburg, but alas no dice. This new album sounds good upon first listen. I just read that Graham Coxon says this is his favorite Blur album of all time.

From the article:

The Britpop group recently returned for their first album in 12 years, with 'The Magic Whip' released this week (April 27). Expected to top the UK Albums Chart this weekend, it is also the first LP to feature Coxon throughout since 1999 (Coxon only featured on one track of 2003's 'Think Tank' after he left the band).
