Jay Glass Dubs vs. Guerilla Toss-"Skull dub"(2017)

dubbed out Guerilla Toss (available on cassette from DFA). G Toss blew me away when i got to see them about a month ago. Shit was lit at Baby's All Right.

The Roches-"Christmas Passing Through"(1990)

Blanck Mass-"Please"(2017)

This is another great lp from Sacred Bones that came out this year. I saw Fuck Buttons play 2x in a single day back in 2008 (Good Records in store performance and then at Palladium). One half of that electronic duo would go on to release music from his project, Blanck Mass.

Boy Harsher-"Motion"(2017)

I was so happy to have ordered the Country Girl EP (Ascetic House) just before it sold out. Why are all of Boy Harsher's releases so limited (and expensive on Discogs)? Anyways these tracks are fuego!

Sean Julian-"Sounds of the Birch Forest"(2017)

i just pre-ordered this cassette from an old pal, Sean Julian. He left the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn to go live (and compose music) in the peaceful setting of Bath, New York. That's a real picture of his cabin!

Weyes Blood-"Everybody's Talkin'"(2017)

Weyes Blood recently put out a 7" w/ a cover song on each side. Side A is a killer Soft Machine cover. This is side B:

Flatliner-"Black Medicine"(2015)

So far everything i've heard from Holodeck Records is top-notch. Flatliner's only release is the 4 song EP came that out in 2015.

Monday, December 11, 2017

Cate Le Bon-"Are You With Me Now"(2013)

My man Chris P put me on to this "neo-folk" artist that recently signed to Mexican Summer.

Ministry-"Every Day is Halloween"(1986)

I also couldn't resist picking up this 12" single at Human Head.

Sly & Robbie-"Triplet"(1982)

Check the Yaz "Don't Go" riff at the beginning. I just picked this Taxi Gang lp up at Human Head Records in Bushwick today. Lotta fire cuts at that spot.

Yaz-"Don't Go"(1982)

Classic.

Uniform-"Symptom of the Universe"(2016)

Black Sabbath covered by these NY guitar-noise industrial heads. I just ordered a 12" w/ this cover on it from Sacred Bones.

Monday, December 4, 2017

Xeno & Oaklander-"Movements II"(2017)

Goddamnit. I'm so frustrated at myself for procrastinating on purchasing new releases then they sell out so fast. I just checked Discogs to buy this cassette and it's $50+! This came out in MAY! oh well. Least we can stream it, right? Rant over.

Twisted Wires-"0000"(2017)

(Unless Glass Candy release something soon) this as-of-yet unreleased LP will probably be the only  Italians Do It Better item i purchase for the foreseeable future.

John Cale & Terry Riley-"Church of Anthrax" (1971)

A friend of mine sent me a link to this LP today and it melted my dome. As familiar as i thought i was w/ John Cale's material, I had never come across this record before. I just saw John Cale + friends perform a few weeks ago at BAM (all Velvet Underground material). Maybe one day I'll get to see Terry Riley.

Ariel Pink-"Feels Like Heaven"(2017)

I've been listening to the new Ariel Pink record non stop! This is my favorite song (i think) from his latest, Dedicated to Bobby Jameson.

Sub Oslo-"Celestial"(2000)

Ft. Worth dub legends Sub Oslo were always such a treat to see perform live back when they were active in North Texas. Check out this trippy video circa 2000.

Curved Light-"Resincast"(2017)

This was released earlier in the year via Holodeck Records (run by Adam Jones from S U R V I V E). I've been listening to this tape a lot as of late.

Here's some press from Fact Magazine.

Gregg Kowalsky- "L'Ambience, L'Orange"(2017)

Another new lp that just dropped today (another Mexican Summer release btw) is Gregg Kowalsky's L'Orange L'Orange. And guess what? He's also playing tonight's Ambient Church. Get your vape pen, 'shrooms, LSD, molly or whatever the fuck you need to experience this aural/visual delight because tonight should be a fun one. (At the last Ambient Church there was no booze, but they had hot cider with the option to add a dose of CBD oil!)

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma-"A Song of Summer"(2017)

This recent release from Mexican Summer was gifted to me and all i can say is it left me pretty blown away. The obvious shoe-gaze comparison would be My Bloody Valentine but without vocals. His whole lp is is textured and ambient with swirling guitars and washes. I'm excited to catch him tonight at another Ambient Church event in Bushwick. Should be killer!

Cluster-"Zuckerzeit"(1974)

Hans-Joachim Roedelius performed last Saturday and it was such a treat to see this "electronic music pioneer"(e.g.Cluster, Harmonia). As with all Ambient Church performances, the visuals were great and the vibe was perfect for some kosmische Musik.

Emeralds-"Does It Look Like I'm Here"(2010)

With many contributing factors including the church venue, nice crowd, and insane projection-mapping visuals- John Elliott and Steve Hauschildt from Emeralds put on probably one of the best ambient/drone performances I've ever seen. I couldn't find any footage from the Ambient Church show so I'll just post this here.

Laraaji-"Ambient 3/Day of Radiance"(1980)

I had the pleasure of seeing Laraaji perform in Greenwood Cemetery a couple weeks ago. What a treat on so many levels. He'll be back for an Ambient Church set in December and i cannot fucking wait. Brian Eno sure has always had an ear for great music. He produced this (basically put Laraaji on the map) just a few years after producing "No New York".

Only Lovers Left Alive trailer (2014)

For the record,I love Jim Jarmusch's movies. I've been meaning to watch this movie for 2 years! A vampire flick with almost zero action or actual blood-sucking. Brilliant!

Bottin-"Y-A-M-L"(2017)

Mike Simonetti's label 2MR is continuing to release great music. Bottin used to be on Simonetti's old label you may have heard of Italians Do It Better. Shit, Simonetti does it better! This song has been in the works for like 10 years btw.

Power Trip-"Swing of the Axe"(2017)

My favorite story involving Power Trip goes back to a quaint vegan restarant in Richardson, TX. The succinct version goes like this: Their singer spotted my buddy eating there, and went over to sucker punch him in the back of his head for "stealing his girl" a couple years earlier. A brawl ensued, tables were broke, police were called, and the brawlers were banned for life from Suma Veggie Cafe. Fast forward years later, and we have this killer record. Enjoy!

B Boys-"Energy"(2017)

First single from their debut LP on Captured Tracks. Not much to say about these post-punkers that hasn't already been said like e.g. "they're influenced by Wire".

Neurosis-"Fire is the End Lesson"(2016)

Sometimes you just want to listen to heavy music. Like if you've had a heavy day. Thank you Neurosis.

Wet Garden-"Behave Yourself"(2016)

I love this tape label Harsh Riddims (out of Atlanta, GA). Here's a banger:
