Happy New Year's Eve

This is a (headphone free) mix I made today with free basic software on a Dell laptop. This mix is to be played at my friend's party in another city that we cannot attend tonight. There's definitely some flubs, errors, and the like. Also, some Top 40 for those that are into that. Oh, well...

Low-"Just Like Christmas"(1999)

Merry Christmas.

I swear I thought this had been posted before.

"Deep In Vogue"-Malcolm McLaren & The Bootzilla Orchestra(1989)

This pre-dates Madonna's "Vogue" by approximately one year. Thanks to Leanne for tipping me off to this jam.

Chromatics-"Ceremony"(2012)

This cover is incredible. One of my favorites covering one of my favorites. Geez.

Johnny Jewel (Glass Candy/Chromatics/IDIB) recently put this mix on Soundcloud that includes the above song and other goodies.

Monday, December 3, 2012

Kurt Vile-"Runner Ups"(2011)

Kurt Vile and Dinosaur Jr. played Terminal 5 in NYC this weekend. I missed the show, but i was glad to spend time with my family. My brother bought me this record for my birthday last year and had it shipped to my house. I hope Marcus can come visit soon.

Sunday, December 2, 2012

Jennifer Rush-"Power of Love"(1986)

Leanne canNOT stop playing this jam. It is stuck, like chuck, in my head. Forever. Cuz I am your LAAAAAAAAAADDDDYYYYYY..... Better than Celine's version.

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Robyn-"Dancing On My Own" (2011)

Guilty pleasure #347: Fred Falke remix: Thanks to Jaith for tippin' me off the this version that rivals the original.

Cabaret Voltaire-"I Want You"(1985)

Another J. Falvo inspired post. I can't wait to start making music again. Maybe John and I can DJ somewhere, too.

Depeche Mode-"New Life"(1981)

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Sunday, November 11, 2012

Warning-"Soldier Of Light" (1983)

Another snow jam thanks to Falvo. Never heard of this group until the other day.

Animal Kingdom trailer (2010)

This is the movie trailer that was on the Kill List DVD. Looks amazing.

Thanks, Al.

Friday, November 9, 2012

Skinny Puppy-"Smothered Hope"(1984)

After Falvo put this on the other night, we ended up watching this sick Nine Inch Nails concert footage from an old Dallas show. (Among other videos, of course).

Monday, November 5, 2012

A$AP Rocky-"F*cking Problem" (2012)

I just wish 2 Chains, aka the artist formerly known as Tity Boi, was doing more than just the hook.

The Smiths-"That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore"(1985)

I was recently told that I'd never have friends again like i used to in my hometown of thirty years.

I may have posted this before, but I can relate to it now more than ever. The only difference is-I'm old.

For some reason the last line of the movie is omitted. My favorite:
[last lines; typing on computer] I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Sunday, October 21, 2012

Orange Juice-"Falling & Laughing" (1980)

From their Peel Sessions :

Gah, I love this band. I just recently heard this version of their classic album opener.

(Also played by Chris P. at his recent DJ gig).

Saturday, October 20, 2012

General Public-"Tenderness"(1984)

Does anyone not like this song?

My friend, Chris P., threw this seven-inch record on the other night. The art on the sleeve reminded me of the Obey images by Sheperd Fairey for some reason. Regardless, the front cover doesn't seem to fit the mood of the song, right?

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Air Supply-"All Out Of Love"(1980)

I heard this on a trailer to the Euro-version on the Kill List DVD. I just can't seem to remember to which film. I thought maybe it was this movie, but i now I'm not sure(/can't find what I'm looking for).

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Bad Brains-"I Love Jah"(1982)

This one goes out to the stanky Rasta electrician that is fixing our door-buzzer.

Speaking of Rastas, ya'll seent this?

Sunday, October 14, 2012

New Order-"Temptation"(1982)

Damn. Last night my favorite group of all time played in my hometown. My friends went. I bet it was a blast.

Saturday, October 13, 2012

Tity Boi-"Up In Smoke"(2010)

2 Chainz before he was known as 2 Chains. "Tity Boi" wudn't commercially viable.

Sampled from this Art of Noise track from 1987:

Saturday, October 6, 2012

The Smiths-"The Hand That Rocks The Cradle"(1984)

This was one of the first songs Marr and Morrissey wrote together. The second one written by this electrifying duo during the same session was "Suffer Little Children".

Thursday, October 4, 2012

Alice Cooper-"Billion Dollar Babies"(1973)

Donovan singing backups.

Some friends and i went to see Alice Cooper a few years ago in Dallas. Those were the times.

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

Neil Young-"Transformer Man"(1982)

J. Falvo played this one for us Sunday morning over some pancakes in my kitchen. The Kraftwerk influence is amazing and evident at the same damn time. Its sad that his son's cerebral palsy was also a definite influence, too.

Slob used to play this album sometimes, too.(Or was is Re-ac-Tor?)

It's no wonder wonder that Sonic Youth covered this jam from the same album.

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Vanity-"Nasty Girl"(1982)

Produced and written by Prince.

Famously featured in the strip-club scene from Beverly Hill Cop.

Friday, September 28, 2012

Low-"Open Arms"(2004)

Low released this cover on 2004's A Lifetime of Temporary Relief: 10 Years of B-Sides and Rarities-

Natalie told me she had never heard this Journey song when it came on the radio last night. I told her i couldn't believe it. I'm contacting The House Committee on Un-American Activities asap.

Low was responsible for another great cover here.

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Driicky Graham-"Snapbacks & Tattoos"(2012)

This is a few months old (early summer jam, namsayin'), but i heard it blasting in Bushwick the other day. Owns.

Sunday, September 23, 2012

PIL-"Deeper Water"(2012)

New material from John Lydon's classic group PIL-

We have tickets to see the new-ish line-up (sans Keith Levene & Jah Wobble) in a few weeks. I hope it's good.

Friday, September 21, 2012

OutKast-"Crumblin' Erb"(1994)

O.G. OutKast, namsayin'? (Before Andre became WHACK).

"End of Watch" Trailer (2012)

I wanna see this. (I've only seent two movies in the theater this year).

This movie was written by the same dude, David Ayer, that wrote Training Day and Harsh Times. Both of those films end tragically, and i am going to go ahead and guess that this movie won't stray from his "downer" endings.

Twin Shadow-"Forget"(2010)

I procrastinated on purchasing tickets to the upcoming Twin Shadow show at Webster Hal in New Yorkl. It sold out quickly (maybe 1 day?). I'm so upset that I am denouncing my love for Twin Shadow. I played his first record at every one of my DJ gigs, listened to his debut album countless times, and even considered naming my first-born George (j/k about the last one). I am going to just forget about Twin Shadow for now. My best friend texted me this morning that last night's TS show in Dallas was the show of the year (probably only because he was in NY when Glass Candy/Chromatics played Granada). But seriously, I don't doubt that Twin Shadow put on a great show. The closest I'll come to seeing him "live" is this 4AD session.

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Aphex Twin-"Windowlicker"(1999)

Taking it back to '99 with this siiick Chris Cunningham video my friend Ed reminded me about recently. You already know I'm feeling that flip-of-the-script around 8:18.

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

Liars-"Brats"(2012)

Off their new album- I hope this song is an abbreviation for "bratwursts".

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Luke-"I Wanna Rock"(1991)

Ahhh. 2 Live Crew. "Doo doo brown". What an infuence these sordid rappers from Miami had on me as a youth.

This isn't even really a rap song. Just a "get hype" track to a 90s break-beat, namsayin'?

French Montana went ahead and sampled this track. Pretty G. Almost unrecognizable.

"What you twerkin' wiiiith?..."

Friday, August 31, 2012

Beyonce-"Sweet Dreams"(2009)

They play this song at my work sometimes. I thought it sounded like Rihanna. I like it a lot.
"Turn the lights on..."

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Miles Davis-"What I Say" (1970)

I like this album better than the oft compared Bitches Brew from the previous year.

Crank this:

Saturday, August 25, 2012

The Cure-"All Cats Are Grey"(1981)

Its so hard to say which The Cure album is my favorite, but Faith one is definitely in the top three or four.

Falvo and I are set to begin a new musical project soon. We both agree on how amazing these early albums are.

Iggy Pop-"Neighborhood Threat"(1977)

From Lust For Life:

Sunday, August 19, 2012

Robin S.-"Show Me Love"(1993)

After the Parquet Courts show, we met a friend at a tiny local bar that had a DJ . This jam got the ladies (and some dudes) too buck.

Parquet Courts-"Stoned & Starving" (2012)

We went to this record release at Death By Audio in Williamsburg last night. Parquet Courts ended their set with  this jammer. It was my favorite song.

Thursday, August 9, 2012

The Clash-"Charlie Don't Surf" (1980)

I watched a downer movie about old friends called I Melt With You. This song was featured prominently in the only uplifting scene.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

"Robocop" trailer (2012)

G or not G?

"Robocop" trailer (1987)

First off, Robocop is one of my favorite movies of all-time. Years before Pineapple Express, this was a film i would re-watch over and over again.  A timeless masterpiece, indeed.

What inspired this post, however, was a recent encounter in the breakroom with a young man wearing a raggedy white worn-out version of this shirt.

Naturally, I complimented him on the shirt. He responded (in a thick New York accent) "You know, is funny. When we wuz kids, I used to look up to cops. Nowadays, I don't really like cops too much, yanahmean? But when you wuz a younger, he used to be a hero. Ya know?" Damn.

It was an endearing moment.

Sunday, August 5, 2012

A$AP Rocky-"Pussy Money Weed" (2012)

So tight he drops "Pimp C' in this new track produced by DJ Clue.

That's a picture of A$AP and Grimes from a party we missed this weekend in Brooklyn at 285 Kent.

Saturday, August 4, 2012

"The Master" trailer(2012)

I saw a movie poster for this last week while at the theater to see The Dark Knight Rises. I forgot how bad-ass the trailer looked when one of my buddies sent it to me a few months back. I can't wait.

So glad Joaquin didn't quit acting to pursue his alleged rapping career. P.T. Anderson runs shit.

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Chromatics-"Hands In The Dark"(2007)

The Chromatics show we saw eight days ago at The Music Hall of Williamsburg will probably be the best show of the year (maybe not IF i had tickets to see New Order). They played last Saturday night in Dallas with Glass Candy. I bet it was amazing.

I cannot wait for AFTER DARK 2 to come out this October. The first compilation featured some great songs, including the one above.

"Hands in the Dark" is a cover. Here is the original.

Friday, July 20, 2012

Hot Chip-"Don't Deny Your Heart"(2012)

Hot Chip is playing tonight in New York. So is College. I have tickets to neither show.

Luckily, i did scoop a couple of tickets to see The Chromatics this Sunday, who are also opening for Hot Chip tonight at Terminal 5, but at $45 a ticket i had to pass.

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

GG Allin-"New York City Tonite"(1982)

I know it is cheezy, but I've been wanting to post some NY related tracks. Here is one:

My good friend Wade has an amazing india ink prison-style tattoo on his arm that says GG Allin "The" One Man Army.

Below is a painting by John Wayne Gacy that he made for GG (used for Todd Phillips's documentary) on death row. Yikes.

Sunday, July 15, 2012

Afrika Bambataa & Soulsonic Force-"Planet Rock"(1982)

I'm heading over to see Afrika Bambataa DJ tonight. Tim Sweeney is opening. Should be good.

A.Bambataa & Soulsonic Force-Planet Rock by keepitreal
This track famously samples Kraftwerk.

Saturday, July 14, 2012

Benny Benassi & Chris Brown-"Beautiful People"(2011)

Have you ever watched MTV's Clubland? It mostly sucks, but sometimes they play some good tracks. I saw this video on that program a while back, but i couldn't figure out who the artist was because Clubland is so cryptic and has too much shit scrolling at the bottom during the whole video. Anyways, Babyvine sent this out recently and i was like, "Ayo, i heardt this before". Sounds so tight.

Thursday, July 12, 2012

New Edition-"Lost In Love"(1985)

Speaking of Travis's wedding, his first dance with his new wife was to the above jam. God, i love this album. (While i was covering the turntables for the DJ, i threw on "Candy Girl" off of the same LP).

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Capt. Beefheart & His Magic Band-"This is the Day" (1974)

I went to one of my best friend's weddings on Sunday. He had an all vinyl DJ (and i was lucky enough to relieve him for a break and got to play a few gems myself). This is one of the standout tracks i heard Ollie play.

Friday, July 6, 2012

Wire-"12XU" (1977)

Andrew aka Fig played this off of a jukebox at The Castle, an after-hours watering hole in Pittsburgh, PA.

Wire reminds of a time that i was at the Lion's Den in Denton, TX, and a girl requested Wire, so naturally i was like "I love The Wire. Best show EVER.". She was talking about the band, NOT the show. I felt like a noob.

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Sunday, July 1, 2012

A$AP Rocky-"Goldie"(2012)

Straight outta Harlem:

Schoolboy Q, a fellow member of Rocky's A$AP crew, played last night in Dallas at the Prophet Bar. I wonder how it was...

Hit-Boy also produced "Ni**as In Paris".

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Washed Out--"Get Up"(2009)

My roommate was playing this the other day. I liked it. I played a track off of Ernest's last album this past Sunday. It sounded good.

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

S.O.S. Band-"Just Be Good To Me"(1983)

9 minutes long!

Tupac samples this track on "Heavy in the Game".

Sunday, June 17, 2012

The Weeknd-"The Morning"(2010)

"Girl, put in work...."

This dude played a straight SOLD OUT show at House of Blues last Friday night in Dallas.

Thursday, June 14, 2012

Archie Bell & The Drells-"Don't Let Love Get You Down"(1976)

I recently heard this deep cut from Houston, TX on Wanz's Summer Slow Disco Mix (recommended listening).

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Tristeza-"Building Peaks"(2000)

tristeza [tris-tay'-thah]-
 noun
1. Grief, sorrow, affliction, melancholy, gloom. (f)
2. Lowness or depression of spirits. (f)

I saw these dudes perform live circa 2000 at Rubber Gloves in Denton, TX.

This cold-ass review is pretty harsh but not completely inaccurate.

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Todd Rundgren-"Hello It's Me"(1972)

This 45 is referenced in the pilot episode of That 70s Show, and then they all sing along during the end credits.

Monday, June 11, 2012

DJ Screw-"Untitled Freestyle"(199?)

Been blasting this lately. RIP DJ Screw, Houston, TX.

(Drizzy Drake sampled this track when he was first coming up).

Top YouTube comment:  Hate doing dishes, but when I do I hit up Youtube and jam all 36 min of Jun 27, and this is comming from a white guy in San Diego! SUC

Sunday, June 10, 2012

ESG-"Moody"(1982)

Emerald, Sapphire, and Gold from the Bronx, NY. Been sampled a million times.

Not to be confused with this E.S.G. (Everyday Street Gangster) from Houston, TX.

Saturday, June 9, 2012

Bob Welch-"Ebony Eyes"(1978)

R.I.P. Bob Welch (formerly of Fleetwood Mac)
Blasted himself like Kurt Cobain, not to be confused with Kirko Bangz.

Saturday, June 2, 2012

Hall and Oates-"I Can't Go For That(No Can Do)"(1983)

Late-period Simply Red samples the above track on "Sunrise".

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Silver Jews-"Random Rules" (1998)

Last night Rob decided to play this song first (acquiescing to a request for Americana). Good decision.

Just the other day,  my brother was wearing his autographed Silver Jews t-shirt from when they performed at Hailey's in 2008. (I even remember Marcus saying he doesn't normally give a shit about autographs, but he was inclined to ask "DB" to sign his recent acquisition from the merchandise booth).

Gah, that was such a fun show. I am elated to have such a cool, older brother that showed me bands like Pavement and the Silver Jews and many more.

Glass Candy/Chromatics/DJ Sober+more @The Granada Theater

This is gonna be the best show in Dallas this year.

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Joy Division-"Atmosphere"(1980)

Ian Curtis died at the age of 23 years, 32 years ago. The age of Ian Curtis would be now 55 years old.

Then you played "Atmosphere", and it killed everyone's bone-JDG

Friday, May 18, 2012

Donna Summer-"Take Me"(1977)

RIP Donna Summer
(December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012)
*this track was produced by Giorgio Moroder. Last night when I posted "Tears" I had no way of knowing Giorgio's most famous collaborator would sadly pass away today.

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Giorgio Moroder-"Tears"(1972)

Thanks to Al "Char-hand Blaze" Brown for tipping us off to this one.

DJ Shadow sampled this track on "Organ Donor".

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Roy Orbison-"In Dreams"(1963)

This video would be good for practicing karoake.

I was once told I listen to "old people music", when I played this song.

(Also, some people say that Chris Isaak rips this dude off.) David Lynch used this track memorably in Blue Velvet, just as he used the track below by Mr. Isaak in Wild at Heart.

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Chris Isaak-"Wicked Game"(1989)

Last Saturday night, I had to remind my friend that he owned this seven-inch. (His sweet girlfriend bought it for him.) I heard a dude do karoake to this tune the previous night.

Friday, May 11, 2012

Dr. Dog-"Easybeat"(2005)

Bad band name. Good music.

Title track from their debut lp. Straight outta Philly....

Sunday, May 6, 2012

Curtis Mayfield-"Give Me Your Love"(1972)

Wale sampled the above track.

While I was in middle school, one of my brothers bought me this compact disc as a birthday gift. I was really into the Beastie Boys, and he recognized the "Superfly" sample in "Eggman" from Paul's Boutique(1989).

Friday, May 4, 2012

Bobby Bland-"Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City"(1974)

Everybody (with a television) has seen the Chrysler commercial blazing this Jay-Z track.

(2001)

Steely Dan-"Peg"(1977)

I was much more familiar with this De La Soul track growing up.

(1989)
One of the the best songs from their most classic album.

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Dennis Edwards-"Don't Look Any Further"(1984)

Tupac's harsh anti-Biggie/Bad Boy Crew anthem uses a sample of the above track.

(1996)

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Steel Leg vs Electric Dread-"Haile Unlikely"(1978)

2/3 of PIL (Jah Wobble and Keith Levene) with vocals by Don Letts (who would later join Big Audio Dynamite) on this raw anti-Zion dub track. "I don't want to go to Africa..."

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Walter Jones-"I'll Keep On Loving You"(2009)

b/w "Living Without Your Love"

I still need to get the latest 12" by WJ's new project, Graceful Exit.

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

A Certain Ration-"Do the Du"(1981)

Produced by Martin Hannett (New Order, Joy Division)

I read once that ACR let ESG use leftover studio time to record some of their best tunes. What nice dudes.

Saturday, April 14, 2012

Midnight Star-"Freak-a-zoid"(1983)

From their No Parking On The Dance Floor LP:

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

M.I.A.-"Bad Girls"(2012)

Jack showed me this track a few weeks back at the Lion's Den in Denton. He was on point that night with the (after) party tracks. "

Party" by Beyonce also had some youngins gettin' buck.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Sunday, April 1, 2012

Schoolboy Q-"Hands on the Wheel"(2012)

I don't feel the hook, but the flows are sick. Featuring A$AP Rocky.

Friday, March 30, 2012

Stevie Wonder-"Another Star"(1976)

Naah..nanananahhhh...nanana...nahhhh....

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Poolside-"Harvest Moon"(2011)

DJ Sober & Dayta's recent mixtape opens with this track. It owns.

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Saturday, March 24, 2012

The Specials-"Friday Night, Saturday Morning" (1981)

I adore this song. Although I stayed in this Friday night, I love living out these lyrics.

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Prince-"I Wanna Be Your Lover"(1979)

Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover by abelflexes
I am jelly that DJ Sweet-tooth recently won an Ebay auction for this seven inch record. Such a good jam. The only time I usually hear this love song is when KSoul plays it.

Kill List(2012) + Timecrimes(2007)

Double Feature: I didn't plan on watching both of these movies last night.

The Kill List (2012)

Jesus. I don't know who would enjoy this movie. Many critics praised this recent release, but audiences (not surprisingly) did not. The Kill List is accurately described as a "hitman movie', but that summary is not fitting. Violent (think Irreversible or Hostel) and almost supernatural (The Wicker Man meets Rosemary's Baby) are a couple of terms that come to mind when describing this flick, after marinating in my head for less than twenty four hours. The Hunchback!

Timecrimes (2007)

My buddy told me a fitting account of this movie being similar to a full movie/single narrative Twilight Zone film. Right on the money. Wade.

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Azealia Banks-"212" (2011)

Big up to the Swedes (who probably read Pitchfork) that tipped off Rob aka DJ Sweet-tooth to this jam during SXSW.

Van Morrison-"Crazy Love"(1970)

I heard this song the other day in a friend's car. (I thought it was the Aaron Neville version).

This is for the older crowd that was feeling Van Morrison tonight.

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Friday, March 16, 2012

Alan Braxe & Fred Falke-"Palladium"(2002)

All the way from France, Alan Braxe will be coming to Dallas tonight to DJ at the Rio Room.

Here's a track (sans Fred Falke) from 1997, one year before he would be involved in Stardust.

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Al Green-"I Wish You Were Here" (1975)

I feel you, Al Green.

(another recent, choice 7" find. This is the B side; A side is L-O-V-E).

Maximum Joy-"Searching for a Feeling"(1982)

This is one of the many great tracks I found on a Y Records compilation, The Birth of Y, for only $5.

Friday, March 9, 2012

James & Bobby Purify-"I'm Your Puppet" (1966)

One of (only) four records recently purchased from Earwax.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

The Smiths-"Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" (1987)

I was elated to find this seven inch at Record Grouch. I saw the exact same record (sans sleeve) for TWICE as much at Earwax. Good find.

Watch the actual video here.

Sunday, March 4, 2012

Kraftwerk-"Pocket Calculator"(1981)

I recently acquired this Kraftwerk single. Great looking vinyl.

Sold in Japan during their 1981 tour.

Thursday, February 23, 2012

War-"Brodermordet"(2012)

This is a new dirty electronic collaboration from members of Danish groups ICEAGE and Sexdrome.

Read more here.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Rockets-"Future Woman"(1975)

French space disco from the 70s-

The talk-box on this track is ridiculous. At around 4:32, that open high-hat drops into the minimal beat and the song really opens up (before ending a minute and a half later).

Mike Simonetti-"Third of The Storms[ft. Sam Sparro] (2012)

Mike Simonetti's debut LP, Capricorn Rising, from Italians Do It Better arrived in my mailbox yesterday. It came out at the end of last year, and I regret not buying it sooner. The album sounds so killer and has a very positive, feel-good vibe.

This is the album opener-

Here's the title track-

Julien Jabre-"Swimming Places" (2005)

I wish Madonna would have played more dance tracks during her half-time performance. Although, MIA did go hard.
To quote what my Madonna-obsessed friend texted me as soon as "Like a Prayer" ended--"Too short. More house!".

Subhumans-"Human Error"(1981)

This song's for the dude working the drive-thru coffee window a few Sunday's ago that asked me, "Is that a Subhumans t-shirt?". I answered "Yes", to which he replied, "I haven't seen one of those in years". (The barista looked younger than me btw.)

Xeno & Oaklander-"Sets & Lights" (2011)

This electronic duo is playing the mostly punk music festival Chaos in Tejas at the end of May/beginning of June with the likes of ICEAGE, Antisect, The Varukers, and Toxic Holocaust. Interesting....

"Gimme Pizza"

"Whipped cream flowin' like WATERFALLZZZZZ....."

Holla' at some real Houston aka Screwston shit:

Now holla' at some recent shit that we wouldn't have if it weren't for (RIP) DJ Screw:

I love that lip-syncing girl's shiny face and grill. The dude with the birth-mark face also goes hard.

Johnny Jewel-"Symmetry" (2011)

From IDIB music-video director extraordinaire, Alberto Rossini (see"Kill For Love" etc).

Another track from Symmetry:

From a recent article:

Pitchfork: But you named the label Italians Do It Better.

Johnny Jewel: That's actually a Madonna reference from "Papa Don't Preach". In the video, she's wearing an "Italians Do It Better" t-shirt. Mike Simonetti, my partner, named the label because his sister had an "Italians Do It Better" chain in the 80s. I appreciate Italo disco, but I just listen to all the same stuff I listened to when I was a kid.

Wu-Tang Clan-"Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nothing Ta Fuck Wit"(1993)

When am I ever going to see Wu-Tang? Never. That's when. The Wu are playing House of Blues in Dallas tonight. Dang.

I will just have to be content with my memories of seeing GZA (twice), Method Man, and Ghostface Killa.

Graham Coxon-"All I Wanna Do" (1998)

This love song goes so hard when the washed out, almost clipping cymbal crashes and full drums kick in.

"It's starting to rain..."

Cocteau Twins-"Cico Buff"(1988)

I heard that my friend's mom (Geoffrey) not surprisingly loves this track.
