Jacques Renault-"Can't Nobody Love Me"(2009)

Looks like I'll be back at the disco-ball-adorned Rio Room in Dallas this Thursday to see Nu-disco DJ Jacques Renault. (thanks for the fact-check CM)

JR held a residency at Happy Ending, one of the only "cool" places I went when I visited Manhattan in '07.

Here's another one:

GG Allin-"No Rules"(1982)

This song was featured at the end of the trailer to The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia (2009). It is a fitting track.

After recently returning on a trip from NYC, I almost posted this song instead. No Rules goes way harder, though.

(G.G. Allin, not be confused with GiGi Allen btw)

The Smiths-"I Know Its Over"(1986)

Besides "Still Ill" and his cover of "Satellite of Love" this was my favorite song from his set at McFarlin Auditorium in Dallas last Thursday.

My ticket had me in a row of about seven seats with only two other seats occupied. I was standing alone. This song struck a chord.

This track is listed on a "25 Most Exquisetly Sad Songs in the Whole World".

Hercules & the Love Affair-"Blind" (2008)

It has been over two years since I went to see these guys perform a DJ set in Dallas. This track still sounds fresh.

We heard a DJ play this single last Sunday night at Sway in Manhattan (NYC). It was G. So was that Glass Candy track he bumped. I even got outta my seat for a quick second.

Calvin Harris-"Ready for the Weekend" (2009)

This song describes how I feel about this weekend.

Morrissey-"Hairdresser on Fire" (1988)

This seems appropriate for Moz's show tonight in Dallas at the McFarlin Memorial Auditorium.

He had his hair cut today while in Dallas.

Mike Simonetti & Johnny Jewel-"Hollywood Seven"( 2010)

This deep-cut is from much further back than 2010, but that's when the sick mix CD "Albuterol" was put out by Mike Simonetti and Johnny Jewel.

Big Freedia-"Ya'll Get Back Now" (2011)

Initially, I was not that interested in seeing the Queen Diva, Big Freedia's set . (Sorry) Soon into her performance at FFFFest, I changed my mind. The show was sick, and seeing her diva-shakin' azz again at the Mohawk after Glass Candy 's jaw-dropping set was some extra icing on an already well-frosted cake.

M83-"Couleurs"(2008)

The scrip' gets flipped about six minutes into this song M83 closed their set with at FFFFest.

Kool Keith-"Living Astro"(1998)

Kool Keith performed at FFFFest last Saturday. Keith replaced legendary rapper Rakim at the last minute due to a broken foot. Bummer for Rakim and his fans.

(I feel like I've posted this song before).

Murder City Devils-"Rum to Whiskey" (2000)

These Seattle dudes and chick were really good to watch (while doggin' out a falafel) at FFFFest in Austin this past weekend.

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

Glass Candy-"Digital Versicolor"(2007)

This track goes hard in the film Bronson from 2008. Shucks, Bronson goes hard in Bronson.

Glass Candy played last Friday night in Austin, TX at the Mohawk. It will be remembered (at least by myself) as the best show of 2011.

They opened with this track.

Samhain-"Archangel"(1984)

Danzig is such a polarizing figure in the (goth) punk music scene. You hate him or you love him.

He is playing FFFFest as Danzig Legacy, which will be a career spanning set with songs from all of his previous groups.

Pictureplane-"Real Is A Feeling"(2011)

This dude is playing Fun Fun Fun Fest. He was hype during his performance in Denton at NX35 ealier this year.
